I almost hate to type those words anymore, my TBR pile's so out of control. But I'll definitely add these after reading your excellent diaries about them. (I hope, in fact, that they're affected by your magical ability to lower to audible.com prices by reviewing the books after paying full price yourself.)

I was struck by this, from Hugh Howie: "The book that took off for me was the one I didn’t promote at all. I don’t know what that means, but it makes me feel powerless about what succeeds and what doesn’t." I respect good writers making good things happen for themselves through self-promotion. But it sure is easy to tell which writers are on facebook and twitter to have fun and mingle and rant, and which ones have checklists of what to do that day to increase sales.
