    "resiliently sinister" :

What kind of a government would pass a law that forbids itself from negotiating the prices of drugs in a government healthcare system and savings up to 541 BILLION taxpayer dollars, but will instead turn to literally taking the food out of the mouths of the hungry for a relatively paltry 39 billion?

I would call a government with those kinds of priorities and judgment pretty damn sinister!

Recently CEPR estimated that the federal government could save from $230 billion to $541 billion over the next ten years if Congress and the President were to enable Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices, as is done in other wealthy countries.

    •  Then how is that government going to be so dense.. (0+ / 0-)

...as to permit a grassroots movement to challenge it?

      •  In my opinion all social change (4+ / 0-)

is a reflection of numbers, pure and simple.

When more Americans are against slavery than not, we get Abolition.

When more Americans are for the female vote than not, we get suffrage.

When more Americans see social imbalance and injustice than not, we get the New Deal.

When more Americans see injustice in Jim Crow and segregation and voter suppression than not, we get civil rights.

When more Americans are in favor of gay marriage than not, we see a movement behind it.

        And so on.

Unfortunately, right this moment we're back to fighting the same battles we thought were won definitively with the New Deal and The Great Society. What our current times are showing us is that the 1% ALWAYS begrudges the 99% their crumbs and it is always and will always be a struggle not only to maintain the crumbs but to acquire a slice and someday our half of the loaf.

We've been complacent. We have to wake up and we have to be vocal.

The Tea Party provides a great model for how disruptive and effective a minority of ignorance can have, think of the results possible due to an informed majority.
