A company I co-founded was merged and I was terminated. The acquiring company was headquartered in Atlanta, but they kept some California employees as well. Because CA allows for 36 months of COBRA, I stayed on a top tier Blue Shield plan for three years at $500/month which was about one third of what I would have paid for an individual plan, saving me $1,000/month.

    "let's talk about that"

plans are comparable? Lot's of folks on COBRA will not switch because of that concern.

Even the "top tier" BCBS plans don't provide pharmacy coverage with no caps, and the ACA plans do.  If you stay on your current insurance, you stay with the limitations on it now.

The coverage built into the ACA plans is extensive, though it varies from plan to plan; people need to look at those in addition to premiums, deductibles and co-pays.

I know that I've a chronic condition, get hospitalized every so often, and I'm on a U of Michigan plan that has no deductibles, no-coinsurance, and no caps.  My last two hospital bills were $0.

Even $600 a month might be a massive bargain compared to 10-40% cost sharing.  It was 10% cost sharing that damn near cost me my life as a grad student, and first time I end up in a hospital, any Obamacare savings will likely evaporate - and being unemployed, every penny counts.

I'll be looking closely, though, at comparative costs, and what the subsidies come to, and all that.  And I do realize I am a very rare (and in a way, very lucky) exception to the rule.  The last two jobs I had diamond health insurance (and I took 'em both BECAUSE they had such good health coverage).
