If he's really as smart as all that, he knows he doesn't have the numbers and never will. He has to know the people he is appealing to is a distinct minority of the population. Either that or he's not as smart as he claims because he's ignoring the stats and deep inside the GOP noise bubble. It's one or the other. I think he is smart, so there must be something else going on.

Progress 365 not just a slogan a goal - 300 progressive seats in the House and 65 progressive seats in the Senate.

I hadn't though about your perspective before reading your diary, but I think your analysis has merit.

You can be extremely bright and totally alienated from reality as well.  Which I think sums this guy up well.

Also:  I'm old enough to remember when people thought Ronald Reagan was not a serious candidate for president.  Look how that turned out.

I don't think his getting elected is likely.  But if he gets nominated by the GOP, there's always the possibility our candidate will implode, and he'll get in any way.  So it would be best if the guy implodes before a presidential run.

Quote of the week: "They call themselves bipartisan because they're able to buy members of both parties," (R. Eskow, Campaign for America's Future.)
