    ...thinking your diary might concern actual horses, and then was delighted by your topic.
      I try to avoid, NOT by swerving, the thousands of wooly bear caterpillars that I find crossing the back roads of Pennsylvania this time of year, and I've often wondered why they bother.
      Interesting observation: our wooly bears always cross perfectly perpendicular to the lanes of travel, and they don't stop while crossing.
      And to note, I see those caterpillars while traveling from one horse farm to the next.
