    a "pantheist" burned at the stake for heresy in February, 1600. The statue is at Campo de Fiori in Rome and was erected in June, 1889 at the site of the burning. It was in response to/protest of the 1884 Humanum Genus encyclical of Pope Leo XIII, which condemned Freemasonry, among other "evils."
