    •  sorry, I was making two points (5+ / 0-)

the first was that I honestly cannot think of a situation where it is appropriate to open carry, the second was that I agreed with the commenter and the diarist that it CERTAINLY is inappropriate at a high school soccer game.

I did not mean to suggest that the commenter thought that it was appropriate at a soccer game, I just was curious what situation he thought it might be appropriate.

was saying that there might be times when it's appropriate to have a carry permit, but not necessarily open carry. I could see having a carry permit in some areas -- for example, if you have to take large sums of cash collections from your church to the bank for deposit. (My father-in-law was on the collection counting committee and often made the weekly deposit on Mondays; fortunately the bank was right across the street from the church and down the street from the police station so he never ran into any trouble.) But having a carry permit is different from open carry.

      •  Oops (0+ / 0-)

I was sloppy in my language. I can't think of a legitimate reason to open carry, apart from hunting (which doesn't fall under that heading). I can think of a handful of situations where concealed carry might be a sensible thing to do, but most concealed carry folks don't really seem to be under any meaninigful threat.

        •  thank you (0+ / 0-)

and the carrying large sums of money from church seeems like a possible example of appropriate open carry- but I would rather have Brinks come and get the moolah.

          I agree with you wholeheartedly.
