  •  I do not think that Judaism (0+ / 0-)

speaks with one voice on immortality. From what I understand from Mortifyd, there are also some Jews who believe in reincarnation. The influence of the Babylonians and Greeks on Jewish thought was complex and not unified, but well before the time of Jesus.

I think "the kingdom of G*d" was a key part of Jesus's preaching - I am not so sure that it was a form of nationalism in the usual sense.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? . . . and respect the dignity of every human being.

    •  No we don't speak (0+ / 0-)

with one voice, but those conceptions of the afterlife were later imported through Christianity during our middle ages.  Such views were quite alien to Judaism during that time.

    •  It's also worth remembering (0+ / 0-)

thatremembering that concepts of man-gods were quite familiar during this time (roman emperors declared themselves living gods, as did Pharos).  What was unusual about Jesus hinting he was a god was that he was a commoner, not a royal.  When understood in historical context, much of Christian doctrine is pure fantasy and distortion on both the left and the right.
