  •  I would say there is a segment of the Left that is (12+ / 0-)

as power over oriented as the rabid Right.  If the President behaved mutually in any way there was going to be hell to pay with these folks.  They don't believe in respecting, empowering and including any more than the Birchers do, or those with so much money that they only crave more.  I also have observed hypocrisy on the Left as shocking as on the Right, a willingness to promote propaganda against the President and obvious confirmation bias.  There has been just as much bullying coming from the Left towards anyone who dares to object to all of this and to work to support the issues and efforts that we voted for in electing the President as there has from the Tea Party Patriots.

I can express why I think the President is an agent for change that deserves our recognition when it comes to peace efforts, he works to remove the occasion for war.  That is remarkable given what we have seen in the recent past from other leaders.

    •  But that opinion (0+ / 0-)

can not square with awarding the Nobel Peace Prize.

I think you misunderstand the objections to the prize at the time.

President Obama has, and I do not blame him for it, ordered the killing of more people during his tenure than any other person on Earth.

POTUS shpuld never win this award.

      •  I had many conversations with a student from (0+ / 0-)

Myanmar that was my son's roommate in college.  He talked to me about his desire for an invasion much like in Iraq to conquer the horrible leaders that had taken over his country.  I responded that I didn't think that would be what I would wish for his country and why.

The last time our country was facing the economic hostage taking from the rabid Right suddenly Myanmar changed course without one bullet being involved, or one drone.  (Maybe the President times these things while the Birchers are distracted, I don't know).  I think about my son's roommate being able to go home to a different situation and yes I thank the President and his administration (including Hillary Cllinton) for working to remove the occasion for war.

I imagine a world where the Iranian people are accepting of our overtures and the young people in that country have really wonderful things to look forward to.  They truly are an amazing people, in my opinion.

I also imagine a world where Jews and Palestinians can have a sovereign state of their own, living side by side in peace.

One last promise the President made and I haven't forgotten.  He said he would work to help the world conquer cancer.  I know he will do that too.

    •  I think it's actually the reverse (1+ / 0-)

To some extent both the Bircher/Tea Party right and a lot of elements of the left DO NOT WANT to be in power.

Being in power is tough. You have all the responsibility to get things done. Not everything you want to get done is possible. You have to face hard realities, and when you fail it's your fault.

I honestly believe that many people on this site would rather (subconsciously or consciously) have Democrats lose so that can vent and complain about what would have been done if they hadn't been betrayed or if Democrats had listened to what they were saying all along.

I saw comments the other day saying that Dems lost in 2010 because Obama didn't fight hard enough for Single Payer. It's like they're happy when Dems lose so they can say "I told you so."

When we stop putting leaders from the past up on pedestals and ignoring their flaws, we can start seeing our present leaders for what they really are.
