  •  I'm pretty sure Obama was awarded the Nobel (7+ / 0-)

at least in part, for the nuclear non-proliferation legislation he worked on while in the U.S. Senate.

And then of course for managing to defeat the war-monger candidate who wanted the presidency primarily so that he could start WW-3 while bombombombing Iran in the process.

Seems the Norwegians found something noteworthy in that...

    •  I understand the reasons (2+ / 0-)

I just don't really find them to be valid, given the role of the President of the US.

To me, he was given the award in a moment of extreme optimism regarding his then current role in the world.

I think it was far less to do with the things he had done.

In the context of the moment in history, I can't really blame them.

at the time of receiving the award should be a requisite, but Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson & Jimmy Carter were all Nobel recipients.

Obama's presidency will no doubt be used as a sort of marker of a change in the world.  In that sense, I don't think that history will be able to avoid the fact that he is a transformational figure in politics.

So I can understand the anticipation of such a figure leading to a more favorable view from the committee.
