  •  Reagan Killed Us (7+ / 0-)

Carter was on the way to 20% of our energy from renewables by 2020.  That probably would have kicked the transition we in the US are experiencing now into happening in the 1980s.  Instead, Reagan was elected and dismantled all those efforts.  Reagan killed us.  That will become increasingly clear as the historians begin to understand climate change and the environment as a driver.

We could have been like Brazil or Germany or Denmark or France with a consistent energy policy focused on getting rid of fossil fuels if we had followed Carter's roadmap, a roadmap that was drawn up in reaction to the two energy crises of the 1970s and had nothing to do with greenhouse gases.  Yet, it would have gone a long way to solving that problem.

who was cheering Reagan because he brought us James Watt and many enviro orgs in response to Watt. My thought was much as yours, we could have saved 30 years.
