    political cover for Obama's austerity program. By concentrating on how crazy the GOP is he obscures the fact that he's angling to slash the New Deal programs; by pretending to "reluctantly compromise" he diverts the blame for his austerity push onto them.

    Once he gives them 20% of their insane demands in exchange for nothing, he'll claim victory because he prevented them from  doing something they never had any chance of doing (defunding the ACA, which is mostly funded separately from the budget).

    Oh yes, and we'll probably have to do this all over again in a few months. Both sides are getting impatient for more cuts and that means they're going to have to "negotiate" more often so they can get them.
