  •  Hope the peace vigil goes well (11+ / 0-)

It was a good week for peace, as long as it holds :)

Have a great day, gulfgal.  This fall weather is energizing.

    •  My wish (8+ / 0-)

is that the United States would get it priorities straight and get out of all these wars and the meddling in the internal politics of other nations.  Unfortunately, our President basically put the United Nations and the world on notice that we will not stop.

Jeremy Scahill's commments on Democracy Now! summarize what this President's foreign policy is.  I transcribed these few sentences of Scahill's comments because they stood our to me.

My jaw wort of hit the floor.  He (Obama) basically came out and said that the United States is an imperialist nation and we are going to do whatever we need to, to conquer areas to take resources from people around the world.  ...It was a really naked declaration of imperialism.

"I don't want to run the empire, I want to bring it down!" ~ Dr. Cornel West "It was a really naked declaration of imperialism." ~ Jeremy Scahill on Obama's speech to the UN

      •  Like the speech on Syria (6+ / 0-)

yes, that's basically what he says.

The speech on Syria was purportedly to announce that there was an opportunity for diplomacy but most of the speech was about warmongering.

The UN speech could be characterized as an apologia of an imperialist. Or something like that. It was quite a bizarre speech.

I think I understand what's going on, to some extent, but I don't know why he won't just make the break with the neocons and why he, Kerry, Rice and Power are so intent on appeasing them.  Perhaps the reason is obvious -- they're not appeasing them. They are neocons themselves.  It's hard to argue against that theory but still I don't want to believe that's true.
