  •  it's great that you supplied these lists! (8+ / 0-)

Thank you. I often see lists as awards come out, but I forget to compare them for the sake of my TBR pile. This year it finally sank in that I must read Louise Penny--she's won 4 Anthonys in a row in addition to this year's Edgar. And I want to pick up Chris Pavone's book, too, since it's sweeping the awards.

And speaking of cfk's great taste in books... I'm on chapter 38 of 76 in Peter Hamilton's Great North Road--"only" 19 hours 45 minutes from the end of the audiobook, heh.

    •  I started to fill out a spreadsheet with the (7+ / 0-)

nominees to see how many times each was nominated, but gave up in fairly quick order. Too many awards.

Great North Road is on my iPad, waiting for me to show up. It seems like such a long commitment that I am waiting for a time when I won't have too many interruptions. Perhaps when I finish up with Louise Penny.

I take it from the fact that you are already on Chapter 38 that you are enjoying the Road?

      •  Yes! definite thumbs up from me (4+ / 0-)

At first I wasn't sure what I thought because it opened like a straight-up police procedural, by far my least favorite kind of mystery. But it soon showed its other-universe/futuristic quirks, and then the policework became only one thread. I'm esp. intrigued by the female POV character--she's very well done imo, which isn't always true in either scifi or police procedurals.
