    Applied to politics, it is of course messy, but I think history shows that something akin to Newton's 3rd law operates there too.

    There are two encouraging aspects to the magnitude of the actions of the Teapublicans. First, they are in large part a reaction to the candidacy and election of Barack Obama. We tend to underestimate the importance of that fact, especially now that our collective faith in his magical powers has declined and we can see that he is a human being with preferences, habits, and an annoying lack of ability to be all things to all supporters. But all you have to do is to look at the magnitude of the TP movement in order to gauge the immensity of the Obama presidency.

    The second encouraging aspect of the bagger revolt is that an equally large reaction to it will arise, as sure as sunshine, and will smash it into the ground. In other words, this too will pass.

    In fact, we might be witnessing the preparations for the TP Waterloo, right now, as they commit themselves to a last fatal attack on Hogoumonthealthcare reform.
