    discussing 1984 vis-a-vis Brave New World, Aldous Huxley wrote in 1949,

    "Whether in actual fact the policy of the boot-on-the-face can go on indefinitely seems doubtful. My own belief is that the ruling oligarchy will find less arduous and wasteful ways of governing and of satisfying its lust for power, and these ways will resemble those which I described in Brave New World."
    I think Huxley was an optimist. He assumed a cohesive elite compelled to self-interested rationality by laziness and a fetish for "efficiency" to seek social stability, rather than what we seem to be dealing with, one that is increasingly unhinged and blinded to the effects on social stability of its own craving for more and more power with fewer and fewer hindrances.

    The GOP can't win on ideas. They can only win by lying, cheating, and stealing. So they do.
