  •  Man, I am confused as a Medicare newbie. (0+ / 0-)

I automatically have Parts A and B, just started Sept 1, with $105 taken out of my SS check.

I have 2 chiro visits at $33 and change each on the Medicare deductible record already, the deductible being $147 per year. After the deductible is paid, the chiro visits are $7! I look forward, after 3 more visits, to paying that low, low price per visit. Then it starts all over again in January, meet the $147 and they go cheap again.

What if I'm a healthy non-smoker, yogini, see my primary care physician twice a year, am prescribed 2 drugs, Valium and Gabapentin that cost a total of about $18 per month, and want to see my chiro every other week?

I don't need part D, it costs more than I already pay.

Supplemental (not Advantage) Medigap plans cost from around $80 per month and go through the roof. I am feeling threatened if I don't sign up for a Medigap plan, like I'm rolling the dice. If I don't sign up for a Medigap plan now, before December 7 or so, I'm threatened with a penalty or refusal by Medigap plans to cover me in the future. That's the gist of what I'm hearing.

So WTF should I do? Do many people have just straight Medicare Parts A & B without Medigap? Do they go bankrupt if they can't pay the 20% not covered by Medicare? Can they pay off whatever the 20% comes to?

I can't afford another $100+ per month. I don't know whom to ask because they all want to sell me something and it sounds like extortion.

The $105 taken out of your SS check is done for all on medicare.  The amount quoted for my medicare advantage, $86, is paid by me for the equivalent of a gap insurance.  My friends on medicare do not pay this.

      •  LillithMc, do your friends on Medicare (0+ / 0-)

have just plain Medicare, Parts A and B? I know that's what the $105 is.
I need to know if I'm asking for trouble by just paying the $105 for plain Medicare. If the private insurers are dumping the very ill on Medicare, I'd like them to have me because I'm healthy and would like preventive care and chiro.
Must I to have supplemental insurance for the 20%? Is there a fine involved if I don't? Can I be denied that supplemental if I apply years later?
I need someone to talk to about my confusion on these and other points.

I don't know their details.  For me as part of Kaiser I must pay the $86 a month which is like gap insurance.  So far no big health problems to let me know how much will be covered.  I'm sure my friends could join Kaiser if they decided during the enrollment period that just began.  They have told me that if they were seriously ill they might do that because the services are broad within the HMO compared to the ones used by their long-time family doctors.
