    One thing I couldn't follow in a few media analyses: they said that because of the tea party bloc of 30 or whatever, to get a majority Boehner was forced to attach a defunding of ACA, otherwise he would have to get support from Democrats, who reportedly were not inclined to give him any.

    But isn't the implication that the alternative would stiff the 'baggers and wouldn't defund ACA--so why wouldn't the Democrats support it? Or maybe the implication is there would still be some watered-down weakening of the ACA or other "compromises" in the alternative?
