all the streets in a certain section begin with the same letter, and some sound a lot alike, which is not helpful.  I'm in the Meadowbrook section, on Maroon Lane, off of Millstream.  The names chosen seem pretty random, and I don't know if any of them refer to anything or anyone real.

    •  Have you ever been marooned there? (5+ / 0-)

Names like Meadowbrook and Millstream are attempts at sounding picturesque, but I can't think of any streets I've seen before named after colors. Just the letter? I'd say they were running out of ideas. I have often wondered how developers who have built tons of sprawl "communities" do it.

Where I grew up, all the streets in the immediate area were named after colleges (I lived on Yale, then on Stanford). I have seen many places with streets named after Presidents. I really think my area should have been more diligent in naming the streets after the movie stars and moguls who built the place.

I had to lie to my mother (who was miffed that I lived on a street named after a Republican) and say it was named after the vacuum cleaner. ;-)

not that the Fire Department will get there any quicker. Most people don't notice the scheme and get confused anyway.

I wrote a whole outline for a documentary researching all the street names and their namesakes, a fascinating look at history, but found no takers. Learned a lot.

I do not like developers naming the streets after their children, Marcie Road, Dennis Street, Candy Lane. That's sick, leave it up to the municipality.

I lived on Countess Drive once, surrounded by King, and Queen, it was pretty stupid, like we're being ranked as neighbors or something.

Honesty is not a policy. It's a character trait.
