  •  Impeachment of W/Cheney was off table as were (6+ / 0-)

criminal prosecutions after Dems regained WH.  There was the "Gang of 6" on health care and numerous futile attempts as a Grand Bargain along the lines of the CFC (a terrible idea in the first place).   Had Rush not told Boehner to say "no" to the proposed Grand Bargain in summer '11, the resulting austerity might've given us President Romney last year.

Our party chair now says that food stamp cuts are okay:

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, told USA TODAY's Capital Download on Thursday that Democrats are not opposed to food stamp cuts.

"I'm certain that we could embrace as House Democrats some measure of cuts," she said. "I mean, every program can benefit from some savings. But the first go-round the Republicans' proposed cut was $20 billion. Then they passed an amendment that was $31.4 billion. And now that still isn't good enough for the Tea Partiers. Now we're at $40 billion. What they're saying is that in America it's OK for people to go hungry."

The first principle of negotiation is that pre-emptive concessions are always a bad idea.  You never take any bargaining chip off the table until you're actually sitting at the table.  That principle becomes doubly important when giving your opponents 1/2 inch leads to them taking 2 miles.  When people fail to understand this basic concept time and time again, suspicions inevitably arise.

Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream of things that never were and ask why not?
