Killing somebody with a baseball bat requires a certain amount of detachment that comes a lot more easily to sociopaths than regular people who swing bats at baseballs only. When you kill with a knife, a bat or even a damn pickle, you have to get close to that person and have the stomach to continue the attack because sometimes one swing or one stab won't kill a person. If people had to war with nonprojectiles only, there'd be a lot less people dead. Almost anybody on a whim can get heated and pull a trigger at someone far away or even closer range. Many people accidentally shoot other people when they didn't mean to. How many of those people would be killers if they had to do it with a knife or bat? I'm guessing far less.

So, I do get your point. I, too am sick of all the people who claim that because freak accidents or murders with nonprojectiles happened on earth, that's supposed to somehow excuse the projectile that was manufactured to kill people, expeditiously and on fucking purpose most of the time.
