    . .  re: the cancelled plans, I can see no other reason for this than that the old plans, probably crap when you get under the hood, are no longer going to be cost-effective or competitive in the new world , where, for instance, 80% of premium has to actually count towards real care . .

    •  The grandfathered plans can't take new enrollees (5+ / 0-)

      which affects their viability, and some companies may not want to risk getting stuck with a plan with diminishing enrollment - they may in part fear future regulations on those lines.

      The other thing is that companies have always cancelled plans when they wanted, and made "similar" plans that were either substantially less coverage or substantially more expensive to game customer behavior. This is status quo. It's just that this year, people noticed.
