    The diary author suggests that if we have family or friends who vote for Republicans we should:

    "Get in his face. Tell him his behavior is not acceptable, that is has been hurting his family, friends and community. Refuse to listen to right wing talking points. Tell him that he clings to them because his denial is so strong."

    My experience is that behavior like that only alienates you from your family and friends and pushes them further into their cocoon to find safety with those who agree with them.

    I am a political junkie, and all of my family and friends know this and love to talk to me about politics. I think I have been successful in moving conservatives towards the middle. How, by listening 90% of the time and talking 10% of the time. By finding common ground and building from that. By not being confrontational.

    "let's talk about that"
