If this guy was in South America, our State Dept would be all over him as a firm ally against the riffraff in the country that don't know how to run a capitalist society.

I'm beginning to think the Cruz family are the public frontmen of an elaborate conspiracy to bring down America via cultivated insanity

      •  The power of You Tube and FaceBook (5+ / 0-)

"We used to cross to the other side of the street when we heard people spouting stuff like this. " Then they got You Tube channels. Their videos were picked up by their local similarly-Crazied. Those videoswere linked to their FaceBook accounts and posted on their blogs. They then got handed around,on Conservative aggregater sites, or passed in emails. They went "viral," but within a group of thousands of people.

In this way, a Cruz man, who would normally have only been heard by his family at Thanksgiving dinner, and perhaps a few dozen readers of a 'zine, can become totally famous in a small national circle. That group might be small - 3000, 6000, 9000 in a nation of 330 million is small - but it is large enough make a huge impact in Right-Wing marketing circles. They can organize letters-writers and comments-packers. They can even reach enough people to eventually win an Senate seat for one of them.

With high-leveling managing and strategizing by some powerful Right-Wing marketing professionals, your Senate career - what to vote for, speeches to make, and positions to argue in support of - can be milked for ultimate power- and attention-grabbers. You could even become a Ted Cruz, and be on the cover of every news outlet. Considering Cruz's system of success, he has every reasonable belief that even the Presidency is within his grasp. Look at how well that system is working

The Tea Party is a monirt of a minority in the House. Those House members are elected by districts that are minority in both national demographics and in nationally-held beliefs. Those districts hold such sway because of gerrymandering.

If that premise is true, what we must be concentrating on is *winning back those very districts. Is there someplace one can go to see the plane - for 2014 and beyond? What percentages of Republican voters in those districts must be swayed? What social media and other "belief networks" do they use? The success of Obamacare, and its cost-savings, is a great point of entry for a wedge based on ACA's benefits and, thus, Democratic voting consideration in general.

They say "cut back" - we say "fight back"!

    •  It took a lot of propaganda to get this crazy (5+ / 0-)

It started with the John Birch Society in the 50s and 60s and it's just been building on itself since then.

Now they're running a crazy pyramid scheme to see who can get the farthest out there and proclaim all those less crazy as RINOs. And it's working just fine.

Meanwhile, the sane moderates are scared shitless of getting primaried and losing all those great perks and campaign donations.

Think of those Founders who were more concerned with protecting the property of the wealthy from the rabble than with actually enabling self-government.

In modern terms, this is all reaction to the New Deal and started with the DuPont Brothers and the American Liberty League in 1934. The folks who thought America needed someone like Hitler, who helped finance his and Mussolini's rise to power, who tried to keep us out of WWII, and who actually attempted a coup to depose FDR. After the war they pulled the plug on denazification, and helped foment a Cold War (among many other things). By the time the Birchers arose, they'd already had two significant victories, the passage of Taft Hartley, which doomed Labor, and the replacement of Parity Pricing with commodity payments , which drove millions of small farmers off the land. We are now in the end game and tragedy is turning to farce.

    •  Rafael Cruz and Ted Cruz ... (0+ / 0-)

are full of shit.  And I don't mean that in a light-hearted sense at all.

They are dangerously full of shit.

If someone doesn't recognize it now and do something about it now, the best that we, as a country, might ever be able to hope for in the future is to be vanqished by a relatively wealthy foreign country led by a benevolent statesman like Winston Churchill.

And the odds of that happening are probably not very high right now and may be getting lower by the minute.
