downplays--as usual--the dangerous precipice this country is on and close to falling off, with no recourse to climb back up for millions of Americans.

The New York Times--and the rest of the "national media"--need to stop misusing language. Stronger, more appropriate descriptors must be used, or else these "journalists" are derelict in their ability to convey the severity of this "action".

This shutdown is unprecedented in scope, and it has been caused ONLY by extortion by the minority party. If it's not criminal on some actual level, it damned well ought to be. All "couple dozen or so" of those Teathug House reps need to be in jail, along with these mealy-mouthed stenographers who continue to mollycoddle them in public.

This all started with "what the Republicans did to language".
