I did watch the video. I did read the stories.

The guy who was run over while on foot may never walk again. He's got a wife and little kid, too. A guy deliberately ran over him with an SUV.

    •  LOL! Motherfucker was part of a motorcycle (3+ / 5-)

mob recklessly burning through one of the most densely populated and trafficked places on earth.

I wish more of his asshole friends experienced what he did.

They deserve it. Fucking pieces of shit sociopaths.

      •  HR'd for calling for violence (6+ / 0-)

You can express outrage without calling for violence.

        •  I don't think he's calling for violence (0+ / 0-)

so much as recommending self-defense. If those of criminal intent or injured or even killed, in their attempt to inflict such harm on others, that isn't a wish for violence. It is a resignation that it happens, while rooting for the victim.

          •  Nobody deserves to be attacked by an angry mob (8+ / 0-)

Not the driver of the SUV, and not any of the angry motorcycle riders who chased the SUV and dragged him out of his vehicle.

The rider who initially caused the accident has been charged.

We must draw the line between reactions based on fear and panic, and reactions based on mob anger and revenge.

            •  There's a long history of NYC racial issues (4+ / 0-)

which factors into this.  Over the past several decades there have been repeated incidents and community activism against, and by Asians, Latinos and African-Americans.  Minority on minority.

Now I know this critically injured man is from Lawrence, MA.
I watched his angry mother on "local" TV last night.
Short of wearing Boston sports team logos, everyone in the NYC area is presumed to be from the NYC area, and up-to-speed.

              So a quiz:
The right thing to do is:
              a) ignore the threats, the in-your-face, as it's just 'fronting' due to the insult you rendered.
              b) get out your license, registration and proof of insurance, as you had a motor vehicle accident and need to share information.
              c) get your wife and child out of there as they're screaming in abject fear of being brutally murdered by an Asian-hating motorcycle gang.

Answer: B, per the NYS Motor Vehicle Laws.

Oh, one other thing:  Asian gangs ride motorcycles and prey on Asian families and business people.
              Bikers = twice the terror.

that motorcycles have significant advantages in heavy traffic because a bike is far more responsive and maneuverable than any car or truck.

Bikes are smaller and car drivers often misjudge the speed and distance of a motorcycle when they enter traffic. Motorcycle riders are used to cars pulling out in front (because of misjudging the distance). Many bike accidents are caused by the car driver just not seeing the bike at all.

trying to forcibly enter, B moves to C. The driver started to do B, moved on to C as the situation required. He did the right thing.

" SUV and dragged him out of his vehicle"don't deserve punishment for their premeditated crime spree?????????????

              Are you fucking kidding me?

If a drunk driver hit an SUV, then started menacing the family inside, what would you fucking say? That the drunk driver doesn't deserve to be fucking hit by the family inside?

              God damn it, what bullshit.

      •  Argh. (0+ / 0-)

Speaking as a car driver, off-road truck driver, motorcyclist and bicyclist, this isn't helping.

Yeah, I agree that the bikers in this instance brought it on themselves, and had multiple opportunities to de-escalate, but calls for violence simply for anger are not appropriate.

I think there are currently several threads on this subject in other diaries on other topics.  With queries at the Help desk.

        Sorry, gotta HR.

Sadly, this group the injured parties belonged to wasn't acting in some innocuous manner, despite the mother's take:
