  •  Speaking of smoking...wasn't Clancy famous for (7+ / 0-)

having said "I never gave AIDS to anybody by smoking"?

I tried using Teh Google to find a credible source for the quote, but couldn't. I vividly remember it, though. In fact, I think I heard Limbaugh praising Clancy for saying it, perhaps 20 years ago.

Add disgusting homophobia and LGBT-bashing hatespeak to his long list of faults.

    •  I guess he gave something to himself via smoke (0+ / 0-)

only 66 and a multimillionaire many times over?.. in the USA with the "Best medical care in the World" (if you have money or very good insurance)?... and all that money could not keep him alive and still pumping out his "war gadget catalogs with a narrative" cardboard character novels past that age?

Of course he may have had a genetic predisposition to whatever it was that he died of and it was not caught in time or was not truly treatable...  but still with the money he had he could have bought a clinic for his own private use complete with a team of fitness helpers including hot masseuses... He must have believed his own mythologies and ignored at least some of his doctors.

to compare: A close relative of mine who was an alcoholic for decades, smoked up to 3 packs a day for at least 20 years and lived mostly as pauper for the last 12 or more years of his life made it to that exact same age as Clancy... and lived part of that time in recovery homes and a Veterans home...  66...

And I might add this relative was a direct victim of some of Reagan's legacy in California...

Pogo & Murphy's Law, every time. Also "Trust but verify" - St. Ronnie (hah...)
