  •  Yeah from what I've read if you are like me having (5+ / 0-)

had a diagnosis of cancer I need the platinum plan. The mud one isn't going to get it.

Though I will say, I have always been good at negotiating with hospitals and getting them to accept only what the insurance pays.

...afford. If you can afford to pay the monthly premium for the platinum plan and you go to docs a lot and need scans and tests a lot...then that IS the choice because it will likely save you money each year. But you really need to have a lot of medical procedures and doctor visits each year for that to be so.

We can't afford to do that. It's way to expensive. We are almost surely going to get the silver plan (gold looks sweet, but is also beyond our means). The saving grace for us the the maximum deductible each year which is far less than what if is for us now...

premium as self employed went to over a thousand. It also didn't pay for so many of the doctors I use - Traditional Chinese Medicine and Naturopaths, or the herbs I take rather than scripts.

I should be eligible for Medicaid but the TN governor is an asshat.

So, I'll keep doing without. We have this great clinic in town for the working poor that can set up treatment for almost anything for free.

I don't get scans, my oncologist doesn't like them so I get blood work that is only $112 every 3 months. I get ultrasounds for free for life (I choose those over mammograms.)

Not as fun as free Baskin Robbins for life but probably healthier.

...when our policy started costing us over $1000 per month we switched to a cheaper policy (read doesn't even comply by ObamaCare standards) that was about 1/2 the price but also was very limited in what it covered and had a $10,000 deductible (now it's $11,000)...
