Environmentalists have warned of this trend for decades now.  The coral reefs are dying back at an alarming rate.  We seem to have reached a tipping point where these factors catalyze one another, bringing about a "perfect storm" of destruction of marine species.

We have recklessly poisoned the waterways, the atmosphere, and the earth.  I live in the shadow of an active volcano that constantly emits toxic gases.  As ocean levels rise, we should expect more seismic and more volcanic activity, with the release of more carbon to acidify the oceans and increase warming.  We are in an environmental free fall from which many species, possibly including humans, will not survive.  We are already seeing extinctions at an alarming rate.  Our arrogance in thinking that we can control the environment is about to bite us in the collective ass.
