  •  But who is the Tea Party now? (2+ / 0-)

Essentially the Tea Party was started by big corporate money to further push their own power. They made it look "grassroots" by appealing to the racism of ignorant, fearful yahoos, who are pretty much beyond their control now.

Those yahoos may THINK they want default, probably for reasons they haven't even thought through — maybe just to make Obama look bad — even hough many of them would be badly hurt.

As for the corporate overlords, do they really want default?

Ed FitzGerald for governor Of Ohio. Women's lives depend on it.

This is beyond the corporate money.

Don't forget - most of the Congress is rich. Almost obscenely rich. And they have invested heavily in everything any rich person has.

A default would cost them MILLIONS. Not the country, THEM personally.

They're not going to let that happen. No f***ing way. You have not SEEN arm twisting yet. There are going to be a lot of casts and slings in Congress in a few days if they don't do something.

for as long as it helped the big business backers get what they wanted.  They claim (listening to CNBC) that while they cozied up they didn't "go all the way" with the baggers and now may want to cut their losses.

Jamie Dimon, et. al., were very careful to let reporters know that their trip to the WH for talks with the president were for "economic reasons" only and had nothing to do with ideology.

As an aside -- what I find deliciously schizophrenic is Mr. Dimon on the one hand paying a visit to Mr. Obama in response to his invitation, while on the other hand he's in court against Mr. Holder, responding to a different kind of "invitation" from President Obama.
