    I have a ton of cardboard, and this seems like a real eco-friendly kind of idea I hadn't even considered.  Accomplishes two goals at once.

      I like to layer it about 6 sheets thick. Lasts a season, then breaks down over the next, you can just keep adding on top of the old paper. Cardboard should be nice, will probably break down a little slower. I echo boat's point, no glossy sections, no glossy cardboard - color inks are not good for plants.

      Great way to recycle directly into the ground, and get something in return besides weeds!
