  •  It's a tragic situation, but I don't blame ... (10+ / 0-)

the police for how it turned out.  It's a miracle that she didn't kill anyone merely from driving down Pennsylvania Avenue at speeds estimated at up to 80 mph, running stoplights as she went.  Frankly, if D.C. had been as full of people as it normally is, the result might have been much worse.

The police didn't have the luxury of knowing, with 20/20 hindsight, that this was a young mother who was suffering from severe mental problems. They just knew that she had rammed her car into a barrier at the White House, rammed at least one police car, injured at least one law enforcement officers and seriously threatened the lives of several others (as well as the lives of anybody else who might have been in her way), and then headed straight to the Capitol Building at a high rate of speed, and that she obviously had no intention of surrendering.

Bin Laden is dead. GM and Chrysler are alive.

I agree with everything you have written. For a moment,
the car was stopped, surrounded by cops, I can think of two or three things that might have been tried. I mention water all the time because the police in Seattle have used it.Your right:I am no cop.
