  •  Medicare covers MILLIONS of disabled American (7+ / 0-)

workers well under the age of 65. (SSDI recipients also qualify for Medicare.) If you are unlucky enough to become severely disabled very early in your working life, you can be on Medicare as early as your mid-twenties.

In fact, the only Americans who were FORCED to partake in the Medicare Part D boondoggle were disabled & elderly beneficiaries impoverished enough that they also had supplementary Medicaid. This Medicaid meant that they already had excellent, nonprofit drug coverage at no cost, which they were forced to forfeit.

    FYI.

There are more of us than you might imagine. And yet almost no one--including progressives here--discussing or formulating Medicare policy gives half a second's thought to disabled Medicare recipients. Who are far more vulnerable and impoverished, as a group, than the 65+ crowd.

...because of the general framing of health care in healthy middle class family terms.  And often in employer-provided health care terms.

But that's a very important point to keep hitting on.
