      predilection for assuming a position as "the spokesperson" for this or that social group. The reality is that NO individual or group of individuals does (or even CAN) speak on behalf of any social group. Gays are not a monolithic block of people, any more than African-Americans or women or Jews or Latinos are. If someone were to stand up in public and declare themselves to be "the spokesperson for Whites in America", we'd laugh at him/her.  Yet we eagerly point to people (usually people we agree with) as The Official Spokesperson for Gays (tm)(c).

      It reminds me of all the intellectual-ideologue Leninists who claim to speak on behalf of "The Working Class"--yet are studiously and conspicuously ignored by the working class.

      It's silly and unhelpful.
