  •  Pull it out and take the penalty. At least you'd (6+ / 0-)

have something left.  Of course that would kill a lot of banks so maybe that's a 10% well spent.

It's time to Foreclose on the GOP House.

    •  Considering pulling a big chunk of mine out (10+ / 0-)

and paying off the house. That makes it a lot easier to survive if I lose my job, and if the markets are about to drop by 50% anyway, it might be win-win.

Even my stable value fund doesn't look very stable in these circumstances.

How horrible can the GOP get?

What is so unnerving about the candidacy of Sarah Palin is the degree to which she represents—and her supporters celebrate—the joyful marriage of confidence and ignorance. SAM HARRIS

by buying out of the money S&P puts
trying to consider the small probability of total failure.

if you expect the S&P 500 to drop 20% then there would be an amount of damage you could anticipate to your portfolio and an amount of puts that would offset that loss.

to be clear, this insurance would cost you a non trivial amount of money.

in the end i don't think this will get that far, it could get somewhat bad but at the end of the day, Obama will not allow the country to commit economic suicide over this.  Somehow, even if it means doing something unconstitutional, the debt ceiling will be worked around.

Obama would be crazy to let the nation fall to ruin if it could be prevented.  The tea baggers are that crazy, it would be a dream come true for them to destroy this country.

Its like the fable i dont completely remember about the dispute over who the mother of a child is and the king says the baby will be cut in half and the one women says let the other have the kid.  the one who saved the kid is the real mother.  In the end if the teabaggers are this psychotic then you can't just allow them to destroy the economy.  its up to the rest of country to deal with them eventually but they can not be allowed to destroy the economy if it can be prevented.
