I am proud to work here for most of the last two decades, and corporate giving is one of the biggest reasons why.

Last year, Microsoft employees donated over $100 million USD to 501c3 charities through a combination of corporate giving programs such as the Giving Campaign, Matching Gifts Program and Volunteer Matching.  We are the first company in the history of THE UNIVERSE to have our employees donate that much, and it is because of the leadership of our founder, Bill Gates, that we do so.  His parents instilled in him at a young age the importance of giving back through their affiliation with the United Way, and it is a lesson he learned well, and has ingrained into the culture of Microsoft.

The Giving Campaign is our annual drive to get employees to sign up for payroll deductions to support their favorite 501c3 causes.  Microsoft matches donations dollar for dollar up to $12,000 per employee per year.  The Giving Campaign is the primary way they do that, supplemented by the Matching Gifts Program to have individual donations matched, and also the $17/hour that can be donated to such organizations for volunteer work of Microsoft employees.

I personally know of no other for-profit company IN THE UNIVERSE that does as much as Microsoft and Uncle Bill, who is now over at the Gates Foundation full time.

In fact, the timing of your plea is quite good, as the Giving Campaign just kicked off last week.  In my walk back from the cafeteria, I saw signs on just about every door, wall, elevator and bathroom stall talking about ways to give during the campaign.   I would highly suggest lobbying not just the corporate headquarters, but lobby your friends and neighbor Microsofties to donate.   I know I will be making a big donation to Northwest Harvest and getting Microsoft to match me dollar for dollar.

I am glad I didn't say anything bad about you guys!
I felt Bill Gates was Global in scope and Microsoft was more local. I have seen such a need! Thanks for all you do!
I will supply a list of our 501c that is an "all in one" where food and clothes and help with whatever else is needed.

Uncle Bill's mission at Gates Foundation is more global, but Microsoft Corp does a ton in King County and WA as well as other localities where we have a big presence.  Corporate does some other giving programs that are more, well, corporate because they provide MSFT software and services.  But the Giving Campaign & other employee giving is the best way to get cash and the corporate matching dollars, and that is usually what nonprofits need rather than software. :)
