Excellent points and I concur completely. Matter of fact, after reading a while I began to wonder if you had been channeling my thoughts .  . . :)

I've been following the "wacko birds" for a couple of years and got really curious about how they could be so schizophrenic and contorted in their thinking. Also, I was particularly interested in your comment on how the Dems seem to have no strategy. I stumbled upon a book that brought it all together for me. It was written by a social psychologist but he integrated findings from anthropology, sociology, evolutionary psychology and neurobiology. Fascinating book. The author's name is Jonathan Haidt and the name of the book is "The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion." If you're interested in the hows and whys liberals and conservatives are different it's a most fascinating read. Can't recommend it highly enough.

more I think about this situation, I'm convinced there must be some accountability, hearings, a commission, something for the sake of the American people.

Funding the government is a routine function of Congress repeated annually.  The House is required by law to complete its budget process by deadlines before the start of the new fiscal year.

They need to explain their actions because this isn't business as usual in Congress.

There is no existence without doubt.

"In theory" accountability happens at the ballot box. Problem now is that the Republicans have gerrymandered their districts so much that many of those seats will be safe for the forseeable future. I wish I thought there was a solution . . .
