This is one reason I don't get the dKos love of Bill de Blasio. He is as much a product of the corrupt, developer-dictated system we have here as anyone is. But now that the primary is over he is still better than Lohta.

I have been fighting the corrupt mess here in Brooklyn for almost a decade. VERY frustrating because all the money goes, needless to say, to the most corrupt, while the progressives usually sit out primaries, then complain about the candidates they get in the general. I can't tell you how hard it has sometimes been to get progressives interested in primaries.

But we HAVE made progress. Two corrupt party bosses have been ousted (one served jail time), the new party boss, though probably just as corrupt, at least now is compromising with the reformers, and we have managed to win several key judicial races (though not enough!). The big money hasn't had it all their own way.

Campaign finance reform needs to be higher up on our list of priorities. As are local primaries in places like NYC where the primaries are generally the real elections.

FREEDOM ISN'T FREE: That's why we pay taxes! Hey...I had a thought!
