  •  I'm not sure he'd vote for a Dem speaker anymore (0+ / 0-)

Of course, his votes for a non-Pelosi in the last few years didn't really count, and his district, though gerrymandered, is still the district with the most potential Democratic growth. So he might in the future. Or whoever eventually replaces him (as a Dem) might.

    •  I think the next Dem Speaker (0+ / 0-)

will not be either Pelosi or Hoyer.  But I think he'll vote for whoever it is that's not Pelosi.

      •  Theory: Matheson will vote a Dem Speaker (0+ / 0-)

just once, to get that Democrat installed as Speaker (this is assuming it isn't Pelosi again). After the Utah GOP turns their media array against the new Speaker, Matheson will not vote for them, but by that time, the Dems won't need his vote and his purpose will be fulfilled.

speaker again, but walked back those comments just before the shutdown. She wants to be speaker again and the minority leader vote proves that she has staying power.
