The NFL has ruined many, many, many lives, far more than it has given a "hand up" to.

I could, however, given a few days.

I'd start with all the NFL hopefuls lured to colleges and taking out loans, all the while believing that riches were awaiting them in the NFP when all they really were were lambs being sent to the slaughter for the entertainment of ... whoever. Colleges that only just recently were called onto the carpet for letting their players continue on when so many of their players could barely read and write, but oh boy oh boy those NFL recruiters will be there next week and they told those college players to keep working on it, it will pay off ... and yet somehow it rarely does. And somehow no one pays a bit of mind to those players who kept them so entertained on Saturdays or Sundays or Monday night or whenever, but who somehow racked up thousands of dollars in loans because they were told the NFL will pay it off anyway and who never acquired the basic skills they need for decent employment and who are now hunkered down in some cubby hole hiding from the student loan people who want their money and who nobody except maybe their mother and brother and wife or wives even remembers anymore.

I'd start there. I know a whole lot of those kids.

Talk to the old veterans who didn't get paid crap during their playing days and now suffer... broke.

      •  That hardly qualifies as an epidemic. As I wrote (0+ / 0-)

in another comment, it's more comparable to lead based paints.  When the problem was discovered, science produced solutions which mitigated the harmful effects.
