  •  Racism is a poor excuse (6+ / 0-)

My racist grandfather, for example, sucked it up and voted for Obama, twice. It's not just racism that motivates them.

First they came for the farm workers, and I said nothing.

    •  not just racism, but still enough for (13+ / 0-)

the GOP message makers to use to keep the hatred flowing.  Enough for people to vote against their own interests, the interests of their families and friends, of their businesses and their homes and their health and their way of life.  Enough to keep the Old Confederacy alive.

I don't believe that the whole GOP Congress would be acting this way, disregarding their oaths of office, their legacies and their moral standing if their racist constituents weren't behind them 100%, begging them to poke a hot stick in the Muslim Kenyan Socialist's eye.

Republicans are all brilliant people, who would all be highly successful if it weren't for those Irish Catholic Jewish Chinese Communist Muslim black Kenyan socialists!  That's why it's so important for laws to favor the rich, since they'll one day all be rich.  Right after they finally usurp the power of their all-powerful oppressors who currently control public policy (?), who have been keeping them down since the founding of the country!  If it's not one underrepresented minority with all the power, it's another!

... when asked about the likelihood of getting rich personally, one-third say it's very or somewhat likely that they will attain wealth because of their work, investments, inheritance or good luck.

(I'd like a better source, but I've seen similar stats from other sources).
    •  Pure hate. (11+ / 0-)

They've been programmed for decades to hate anything left of center.  Look how they use Democrat offensively and spit liberal out, and how we have run from those terms because of the hate they've drummed up.  We need to stop their propaganda, but haven't a good enough platform yet to do so.  They're winning that war and it makes me sick.

The GOP will destroy anything they can't own.

    •  My father presented as racist when I was a kid... (0+ / 0-)

but by the time Shrubbie was in power, Dad had decided that he would vote his brain and not his viscera.

      •  With my grandfather (0+ / 0-)

The deciding factor was McCain nominating Palin as his running mate. He just couldn't stomach letting someone that stupid get that much power.
