  •  The reason for our deficit is simple (24+ / 0-)

2 wars on the credit card, Medicare Part K on the credit card, greedy Wall Street and Banksters getting bailed out (and still up to their same old shenanigans), a massive military and national security apparatus, dependence on private contractors, a world wide military empire, failure to tax business appropriately (eliminate those loopholes and charge a fair rate), failure to remove the cap on Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes and limiting them to "earned income" (exempting investment income), shifting the tax burden from business and the rich to workers, business offshoring their money, dwindling wages, corporate and farm subsidies, lack of good paying jobs ....

    It's a big list.

Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid aren't on it.

We need to take in more revenue.

There already is class warfare in America. Unfortunately, the rich are winning.

pay are needed to generate revenue.  All the jobs either disappeared, were cut due to being a non-profit, or shipped overseas.  How do they want the elderly and disable to support themselves especially when there aren't enough jobs for the healthy.

      My head is just spinning.

To paraphrase Alan Grayson, if you cut off their SS and Medicare they'll die quicker.

For conservatives, that's a feature, not a bug.

don't care, but if they think they will ever have a perfect world with no poor, elderly or disabled, then they need a psychiatrist and not a deal.

require that no new revenues be on the table. Including the lost revenue from the Devices provision in ACA.

Your list started with the right excess deficit spending: the 1.5 $TRILLION to the Pentagon every year. It should be something like $3-400B. Even if we cut nothing else that would pay our $17T debt down to a worthwhile $500B in under 15 years.

Meanwhile we'd stop kicking hornets nests around the world that force us to spend all kinds of other money handling the crisis, that interfere with us trading among more peaceful friends. Oil would drop under $100 a barrel and Americans would spend more on each other instead of on foreign oil peddlers, which would increase taxes - further quickening the end of the big debt.

Yes, more revenue like at least 0.1% tax on every financial transaction. Respect work as much as investment by taxing them the same. But if those were done in addition to cutting the Pentagon to $3-400B, we might retire the entire debt in well under a decade.
