  •  The toll on our people is tremendous (11+ / 0-)

I am a disabled Vietnam veteran who waited 630+ days for my most recent claim to be decided by the VA (they decided 20% increase for CAD/IHD caused by Agent Orange - I couldn't believe the %).  And then - they made a mistake and offset $300+ from my first month's pmt - it will take 10 weeks to correct & process my refund.  Now, the first month when I am supposed to get the full amount, due to the shutdown I may get nothing.

And they wonder why veterans with serious illnesses and PTSD are pushed to the edge or over the edge.  There is great insanity in the modern world.  So much does not make sense, and at the very top of the list would be the Teabagger worldview and view of the function of government.  Government exists to serve the people.  We need government.  In a grand, diverse and complex modern democracy, we need government even more.

We need to free ourselves from the hostage takers and never let this happen again.

I am thoroughly saddened and disgusted.  I would emigrate if I were younger and in better health.

may the universe help the people of the United States.

are being prescribed too many pain meds.
People in high class places have their priorities as to which veterans-being-treated-poorly story to focus on, don'cha know.  (snark)

      •  Some vets need pain medicine (4+ / 0-)

and in Florida, I would say more so because the vet is ignored here more than anywhere else.  I have seen many VA's but this region has the worst.

Tommy...the claims office is shut down so that wait went up.   By the way 50 percent is not half of 100 in monetary terms with the VA.   One would think...but it is not.

        •  Also 30% & 30% = 50% according to the VA (0+ / 0-)

not 60%!  That is my award.  $810 monthly.  For heart disease presumed caused by Agent Orange in Vietnam.  What a country.  And delivery of the 1 Nov pmt is now in question.
