    charities.  it was, of course, prior to the passage of the UBIT statute in 1950 and continued to exist as an exception.

        I'm not disagreeing with you at all here; I know it's not all a recent development but it is a far bigger deal now than it was prior to the New Deal because the opportunities for collaboration are greater, and in fact if anything it was probably the Great Society that led to much of what exists now in the way of collaborative and financial-dependency-inducing initiatives.
