  •  No, there's nothing funny about this (9+ / 0-)

    shutdown and potential default.

The point that I'm trying to make is that we are still being held hostage by people who don't even know WHAT THEY WANT!

They are so disorganized and incoherent that the theory of them spinning a wheel or throwing darts makes as much sense as anything else.

    •  Well, beg to disagree. They do know what they (5+ / 0-)

want, but they can't articulate it because they know enough to know everyone would laugh. Besides, it's not a what, not a thing. What they want is power, an ephemeral sensation that seems to evaporate as soon as they get a whiff.

Power is their desire, the nirvana of the powerless wallowing in an inferiorty complex. But, power is doubly problematic. To be felt, somebody has to be hurt AND the lust for power is never satisfied. There's no end to it. Plus there's the real possibility that the hurt will up and retaliate -- their cowardice is well-founded.

Like all addicts, those who lust for power require an intervention to monitor withdrawal.

I'm visualizing a phalanx of pink ladies marching up to the Capitol bearing straight jackets. But, that's not realistic, is it?

      •  I was thinking the other day that they (6+ / 0-)

reminded me of those stories you read about apparently once normal guys on a football or soccer team or in a fraternity who get so swept away by some delusional groupthink and bonding that things they would never  previously have done or condoned in open society all of a sudden becomes acceptable in their weird closed one - things like rape and hazing that is so vicious and/or stupid that people die.

Their boundaries of what is acceptable behavior gets warped beyond comprehension and then when something horrible happens they profess that they don't know why they did it and no one stood up to stop it.

In these situations, blame is also always apportioned out to any adults present who also did not curtail the behavior. In this case it would be John Boehner, mostly for not telling Cruz and the other idiots that the Republican Party would not be going along on their suicide Tea Party bonding mission with them.

      •  You only have to look to their religious "base" (4+ / 0-)

and listen and read about what they want.

See the Turner Diaries, or from our side of the aisle see The Handmaid's Tale.

I have said this for 20 years: The GOP has been hijacked by religious extremists. They embrace neoconfederacy, pseudo-monarchy, and other assorted cultish behaviors and they need to be harshly expelled from office and locked out.

I don't care what they do in church [as long as it's not breaking the law] but I draw the line and legislating cult-values with my tax dollars.

        Fuck that.

Gentlemen, congratulations. You're everything we've come to expect from years of government training (Zed, MIB).
