  •  The real "negotiating" will go on (2+ / 0-)

behind closed doors during that six weeks. We get a six week reprieve. They get a grand bargain. All the grownups will declare victory. "They had to give up something their side wanted (debt ceiling), and we had to give up something our side wanted (sequester level budgets forever, entitlement "reform", tax "reform"), etc."

If they/he don't hang tough now, they never will. If they/he don't hang tough now... will the last person leaving the middle class please turn out the lights?

to sell a grand bargain, if gop brinksmanship no longer can be used as the excuse for it.

They're not releasing the hostages. They're politely not shooting them... yet. That's the tradeoff for the six weeks. As you would say, "I know this is hard..."

that there will be no deals under threat of default, then all that happens is that the pressure keeps building, and the gop poll ratings keep sinking.

they are not negotiating under threat, but conducting "routine" discussions on the budget and final reconciliation. It will give the rethugs a chance to buy into the giveaway on the Ryan budget that has already occurred, and maybe further concessions on taxes and entitlements. The dems will get debt ceiling and medical devices... until next time.

Ask yourself, what would be the point of the six weeks if they didn't plan on doing something during the deferral?

All will be avoided, if they hang tough now. I'm still hoping they will hang tough.

because it doesn't know what else to do. republicans are desperate. delaying the deadline doesn't imply that democrats suddenly will give in and negotiate. the gop is slowly bleeding to death. let it continue.

              •  Another consideration... (0+ / 0-)

The president wouldn't be formally involved in the process. Budget reconciliation is a normal function of Congress... supposedly, anyway. There could be a lot of reconciling in a month and a half. Technically it wouldn't involve the debt ceiling.

But, as said, we'll know soon enough!

plan, that millions of us live on exclusively.

And what we get is they don't shoot the global economy in the head--this time.

That's not horse-trading. There's a reason they're calling this hostage-taking. These are the tactics of an Al Capone, except using money instead of guns.

I tried to go online to find a similar bear head...but when I searched “Big Bear Head” it gave me a San Diego craigslist ad entitled “Big Bear needs some quick head now” and then I just decided to never go on the internet again.--Jenny Lawson
