Oh there will be talk of caving. The Republicans are going to be singing from the rooftops that they are doing the right thing to save the country, when the President won't. And lots (especially in the media) will buy the bullshit.

The Rs won't call it caving, they will claim hero status. But anything they offer in terms of a deal, that some will say is a cave, will have unacceptable strings attached. We are prepared to open the government, they will say. But the fine print will have an asterisk that this is conditional upon first giving into their demands sticking up for the American People. It will demand that the Ds cave on some parts of the ACA, or Medicare, or Medicaid, or abortion, or whatever foolish damn thing they come up with in the next ten minutes.

The Rs won't cave. They will go over the cliff, screaming on the way down that it's somebody's fault. Anybody but theirs.

"Let's have that conversation" - a phrase tossed about by people who have no intention, or no ability, or both, to honestly and intelligently discuss anything.
