  •  Had he stood his ground last time (13+ / 0-)

We may well be looking at a President Romney having repealed the ACA, passing the Ryan plan, and declaring war on Iran.

and not everyone here understands the concept of a long game.

      •  Yes, of course. 11D chess. (5+ / 0-)

Because the sequester and the Grand Bargain/Chained CPI we needed the Tea Party to rescue us from were all part of the long game.

you must be refering to someone else.

with the exception of saying that internet communication involves more than one dimension, i've not used that idea to communicate what i think about PBO.

i've consistently used the "long game" metaphor.

          btw, the sequester sucks.
the Grand Bargin and Chained CPI haven't happened.

          ;-)

Are metaphors that, while not exactly interchangeable, are interrelated.

And yes, the Grand Bargain/Chained CPI have not happened yet. If you want to reassure yourself that because they have yet to happen, they won't happen, despite Obama's continued support for them, that's your choice.

I promise not to say "I told you so" in the event they become a reality.

i'm not reassuring myself of anything.   i'm vocal about not supporting either the Grand Bargin or Chained CPI.   i don't see what your point about needing the Tea Party to rescue us has to do with my advocacy of looking at this administration's moves as part of a long game.

i think you're saying, in essence, "past is prologue" and i agree that is one way to look at something.  just so happens i live with someone who thinks along the same lines as you've said above.  i see it a different way and... have no idea if my way of seeing is right or wrong. and i certainly don't care about "i told you so's."   when it comes to political moves i've been right and i've been wrong, i don't hold a lot of personal attachment to either.   i'm in for the long haul, have been for decades.  win a few lost a lot.

i'm a far leftist in my ideology.   rightbrained and wild.   ;-)
i am practical and linear as far as getting from step 1 to step 100.    that's why i love it when "leaps" happen like the one we're seeing now re: the Tea Party being stripped of their clothes.   because it's rare.   and i think it actually took a lot of work from millions of us to get to this point.

and it's hard to remember the long game when he sometimes disappoints. Looking back at some of the things that sent me over the anger ledge actually turned out to be not so bad, but some still really piss me off.

really happened in 2009, not in 2011.  Had he played his cards better in 2009 by taking on Wall Street and fighting for a bigger stimulus, we would have probably had a D majority in the House and a filibuster proof Senate.  And probably a landslide win in 2012.

But after the GOP took over the House in 2010, we were completely on the defensive.  You were going to get some spending cuts in 2011 once that happened.

        •  I'd really be interested in your diary (0+ / 0-)

not comment explaining exactly how he screwed up and how he should have 'played his cards better'. Feel free to message me or poke me when you do.

    •  Sorry, not buying it. (8+ / 0-)

      People like strength.

He might've won even more decisively had he stood his ground.

And we might not have this lovely sequester.

      Rationalize it all you want.

We wouldn't be where we are today had he slapped the GOP down a lot sooner.

Once the GOP took over the House, the two options in 2011 were caving or default, the latter would have dumped us into a recession/Depression, and resulted in a Romney landslide.

Obama and the Ds made a big mistake in not taking the teabaggers head on in 2009.

          to give it a rec.

Right out of the gate would have been the best.
