  •  Agree that what the GOP is fighting for (7+ / 0-)

is the opposite of what the American people want and they're shredding themselves.

But where all of this breaks down is with "entitlement reforms".

The leaders of both parties are also fighting to cut Social Security and Medicare. Medicaid is on the chopping block too.

I'm not sure about the poll numbers on Medicaid but nobody in this country wants cuts to Social Security or Medicare and nobody thinks it needs to be done, and people have offered up other things to cut as an alternative, like the bloated, obscene defense and intelligence budgets.

The only people who agree with cutting Social Security and Medicare are the top 10% and a few clueless stragglers.

Not only that, the Democratic party has been the creator of those programs, perhaps the most successful programs in American history, and the champions and defenders of those programs for many decades. The people expect the Democrats to save those programs from the crazy GOP.  Due to some clever messaging by the Democrats, most people don't see it coming either, even though the president has put it on the table and has declared his desire to cut them.

So what happens if the Democrats do cut them? Well it's really clear what happens because we've seen it in 2010. Every Republican, whether they voted to cut it or not, turns all their big guns onto the Democrats who cut the two of the most popular and successful programs in American history.  And when they figure out why they cut them, there's going to be hell to pay.  There are also going to be a lot of the best campaign ad firms making attack ads against the Dems about 2.2 seconds after the president signs any bogus "entitlement reforms", whether they're done in one fell swoop or whether they're done in a multi-phased way.
