  •  They'll cave on this too (9+ / 0-)

Obama's already stated repeatedly that he won't negotiate on the debt ceiling or shutdown and won't accept ransom terms on either. Either the raise the ceiling and pass a clear CR or it's no deal. I don't see him backing down on either this time. If he did, his presidency is effectively over and his ratings will plummet into the 30's. Repubs can stand firm if they like and take us over the cliff, but they'll get the blame, not Obama or Dems. They know this now. Which is why I believe that they'll cave. Again.

They'll keep scrabbling for a toehold right up to the very last minute, but ultimately they'll have to cave.  If they take us over the cliff, they've handed the Dems a ten-ton hammer to bludgeon them with for the next 20 years.  The TPers may be too zealous to accept that truth, but the country-club Repubs sure as hell know it, and even the most aggressive gerrymander can only do so much...

    •  They not helping themselves (7+ / 0-)

by coming up with new demands every day.  This idea that they have to get something because they embarked on an incredibly stupid path and are not going to get what they really want shows that they are just vandals out to destroy the country.  They don't care about the deficit, they don't care about spending, they don't care about freedom.  They only care about winning and thumping their chests. Even some of the villagers are starting to realize this.
